DEEP GROOVE BALL BEARING
NEEDLE ROLLER BEARING
What is a bearing?
A bearing is a device that allows rotational movement between two objects. They are usually found in machines where two elements rotate relative to each other along a defined axis of rotation. There are many types of bearings, each with its own advantages and disadvantages. Among the most common types are ball bearings, roller bearings and thrust bearings (ball, needle, roller).
Bearings are used in a wide range of machines that require rotation or motion control, including industrial machinery, means of locomotion (cars, motorcycles, scooters, bicycles, rollerblades, scooters, etc.), construction equipment. They are also found in many household appliances and other devices.
There are four main types of bearings: ball bearings, roller bearings, tapered bearings and needle bearings.
Ball bearings are the most common. A ball bearing has round balls that help keep friction to a minimum, allowing it to spin at high speeds. Conventional ball bearings are designed to support radial loads. They cannot support large axial loads. To overcome this problem, there are several types of ball bearings, including angular contact bearings, which are more resistant to this stress.
In this range of bearings, you have the possibility to choose if you want it open, waterproof, dustproof, with increased clearance and many other features.
Unlike ball bearings, roller bearings use cylindrical rollers and can support significant radial loads. This is because the contact area is much larger than with balls. This product is also very robust and durable.
Tapered bearings consist of two parts. There is the cone which is the inner part with the rollers and the cup which is the outer cage. This construction allows the bearing to be able to support much higher combined loads (i.e. axial or radial loads).
Finally, needle roller bearings are less bulky because they are thinner and can support high speeds while carrying high radial loads. These bearings do not support axial loads (only combined bearings with thrust and needle roller cages can).
The range of bearings also includes drawn cup needle roller bearing, thrust ball bearing, axial needle roller, thrust roller bearing, needle roller and cage assemblies, bearing roller cage, castor bearing, self-aligning ball bearing, self-aligning roller bearing, drawn cup roller clutches, linear bearing, etc.
The choice of this product is generally conditioned by the dimensions, the speed and the loads that it must support. These constraints depend on the assembly of the machine.
Generally, the ball bearing can support high speeds and low loads. On the other hand, roller bearings can support higher loads but with lower speeds.
There are two main types of loads which are:
Today, there are several tools you can use to measure a bearing. However, the most accurate tool that we recommend is the caliper. It can measure the inside diameter, the outside diameter and the thickness of the bearing.
In order to simplify your search, you will find reference interpretation guides on the pages of the different bearing types.
These products are highly stressed mechanical parts. That's why they eventually wear out, make noise, take up play and sometimes even break. Depending on the use and the machine on which it is mounted, the breakage of a bearing can be dangerous. We therefore advise you to change the bearing as soon as you notice a defect on it. Moreover, if the change is made in time, there will be no impact on the machine and you will be able to repair it instead of throwing it away and buying a new one!
A bearing should be changed as soon as you notice that it is defective (noise, play, etc.). Depending on the type of bearing and its location, manufacturers recommend changing them according to the number of kilometers driven.
